Dragon City Review

You may earlier have a couple of idea of how to train your dragons because of Cressida Cowell, but do you know how to breed them? If you don’t, you can supplement that regrettable gap in your fantasy credentials by playing Social Point’s Dragon City, which lets you originate over 150 versions of the winged monstrosities by tossing two dragons into a frequent pen and hoping for the absolute.

Of course, that also signifies it’s less of a “city” than a farm of sorts, and unfortunately, similar muddlings of objective saturate the entire experience. You’ll still have a good time here if you enjoy smiling at the wide variety of adorable and impressive dragon combinations Social Point reveals with each hatched egg, but the overall experience fizzles out after only a number of hours.

It’s a shame, for the reason that it starts off so well. Dragon City’s quests do a good job of walking you by ways of the fundamentals of building habitats for special dragons, purchasing and hatching eggs, raising dragons to adults, and even the act of breeding itself, but you never get the intuitive feeling that all this breeding serves any greater objective besides raising a bunch of dragons for player-versus-player pit fights. That last objective isn’t even clear until you reach level ten.

In the absence of any type of story that lets us know why we’re breeding a dragon army on floating islands in the sky, Dragon City’s main charm rests in learning what types of strange dragons you can originate by matching fire dragons with, tell, water dragons and showing off your dragon farms to your friends.

Still, Dragon City’s gameplay contains a couple of nods to standard social gaming conventions such as giving a visit to your friend’s dragon cities, but the implementation appears unfinished. There’s no intuitive feeling that you’re involucred in any chores, for instance–you easily click on 5 dragon habitats and pile up the cash that drops from each. You can in addition earn singular breeds of dragon by building a “Recruitment Tavern” and assigning your friends to positions there, but beyond that, small else occurs.

These gaps could have been overlooked if the PvP dragon battles operated on a Pokemon-style concept, but since you can only battle 3 times every 6 hours and you never run the risk of losing one of your precious dragons, there’s little factor to bother with the tired randomness of the fight if you don’t wish to.

In its favor, Dragon City doesn’t limit its gameplay with an energy bar, but it generates up for such limits by imposing insane prices on a couple of items once you’ve reached level ten or so. The idea, obviously, is to get you to pay for automatic advancement as an alternative of investing hours collecting money from your grown dragons. The trouble is that Dragon City generates the jump a bit too by surprise, and at a point when you start off to notice other shortcomings like a map that mainly looks the same for every player, save for the placement of individual buildings.

That’s maybe the unkindest cut of all. When you call your game a dragon “city,” isn’t it evident that we’d like our cities to look as distinct from our friends’ cities as possible?
